Show Sponsor/Review

♦ FREE STUFF

This is new for us, but to help out with the costs of hosting a podcast, etc, we have started a podcast sponsor program.

Our first official sponsor is Jennifer/bakergirljenn of That Purple Girl on Etsy.  She has GREAT project bags in her shop!!  She is offering up a project bag for one of our listeners.  Follow the instructions in the episode and comment in the “That Purple Girl” thread on Ravelry.  One comment per person and you must be a member of the group to be eligible to win.  There will be a picture of the adorable bag she is offering up in the prize thread.

She sent Janis and Ann adorable drawstring bags to review and use.  Ann’s is green with owls all over it, and Janis’ is Orange with owls all over it!  They coordinated with our yarn choices for the ZZP KAL, so we have been using them for this project.  They are great bags, very well made.  The drawstring is twill tape and very sturdy.  Smooth pull action.  They are fully lined.  Perfect size for a one skein project, like a cowl or socks!

She also has wedge bags in the shop, so definitely go check her out!!  She is generously offering a coupon code to our listeners of 10% their order when they spend $15 or more in her shop.  You will also receive another coupon with your order!  This coupon goes through the end of September.  Be sure to listen for the code!!!   CFGTPG10- Make sure you put this in the thread info

Ann- I went to Dabo Swinney’s Ladies Camp at Clemson University with friends from my former school.  It was rainy but I had a blast.  It was a LOT of walking and LOTS of hills…my leg did not appreciate that much.  They raised over 60K dollars for breast cancer research/awareness.

TOUR DE FLEECE Update!!!

My goal this tour is to really concentrate on Spindle Spinning.

I am working on my Nunoco batts on my Dazzling Dragonfly supported spindles, and want to finish them up.  It is a set of two batts in the Hummingbird colorway.  I have finished batt 1 and started number 2.  I turned the rest of the batt into punis and really like how that is working.  Took a day off.  Pink is done and I am moving into the transitions to the teal.

I also have had a “purse project” on going for a LOOOONG time.  It is some merino/bamboo that has been in my stash for a long time.  I have been spinning it on my tiny turkish spindle.  I have finished 7  turtles before the tour and so I have been working on that. I am working on turtle number 8. – Did not touch it this week.

I also have a coupon code for my etsy shop, Dazzling Dragonfly, in honor of the tour – Use the coupon code from the episode to get 10% off any item in the shop that will run through the end of July.  I have just added a few new spindles and stitch markers.

JANIS – TOE UP SOCKS

I again needed to rip these back. Brian didn’t like the feel of the FLK heel so I put in a piece of waste yarn to come back and build him a heel. I’ve started the ripping on the top of both socks!

ANN – SUN TEA BY LAURA AYLOR
  • Yarn – Copper Corgi SW Merino fingering weight yarn that we dyed with Sarah
  • Needles:  Knit Picks Interchangeables
  • Size:  US 4

I have finished the bodice, done the neck band, and have picked up the stitches for the bottom.  I absolutely LOVE how the bodice came out.  There is not any pooling in the handpainted that I did even in the thinner sections when I split for the front to back.  I am so pleased.  I LOVE the colors too!!  Now it is just stockinette with a few decreases after the bust until finished!!  Loving it!!

I am also using a Vintage Rose stitch marker and am participating in the #SuburbanKirbyRose KAL

ANN – ZUZU’S PETALS BY CARINA SPENCER
  • Yarn:  Copper Corgi
  • Color – Key Lime Island
  • Needles: Knit Picks
  • Size 6 US

I finished mine at knitting this morning.  I did an extra “petal” ( I knit rows 1-32 then did rows 17-32 again.) Then I did rows 33-40 twice before doing rows 41-42.  I broke into the last color when I started row 41. I have 15 grams of the last color left.  To use more yarn, I might have made it with another petal repeat and maybe only one repeat of rows 33-40.  Still need to block.

Ann –  Zigzagular Socks by Susie White

I want to make mine bigger with the sport weight kit from Sarah – I plan on using the size 6 needles and then increasing my stitch count in the stockinette portion to accommodate 2, possibly 4 additional repeats of the lace.  The lace repeat is 12 stitches, so I will add 24 or 48 stitches before joining in the round and these will be added symmetrically on either side if the center stitch.  Several people on Ravelry mentioned doing this in their project pages to make it bigger.

So, the first one was really too big for the blocker…it looked sloppy and I did not want that.  SO, I cast on another one and did the lace pattern “right” and finished it in less than a day.  It is done, looks MUCH better and appears that it would fit a 6 year old.  🙂

We also chatted about the numerous French Press Slippers that Janis has made.

ANN

  • Ann caved and bought the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery Mysterious Halloween Town club pattern and all of the supplies.  The 1st of 4 clues came out on Thursday June 19th and I started that afternoon. Bought some readers that have LED lights and are stronger than my usual readers 🙂

  • Vacation Yarn – The Knitting Place in Venice, FL Plymouth Yarn Stiletto – color 822 and Diversity color 0004

  • Fat Squirrel project bag – Green Octopus sock size bag – SO pretty, I love it!
